Are These the Most Irish Counties in Idaho, Washington, and Utah?
With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, online search engines have seen massive bumps in searches related to the holiday and Irish traditions and ancestry.
With that information we are able to determine the most Irish places around us, which should be great if you want to head there for a celebration.
Are These the Most Irish Counties in Idaho, Washington, and Utah?
We were given a report in an email from the Canada Sports Betting website (don’t ask us how we got on their list) showing the the most Irish counties. They used data from Google searches, the number of Irish pubs and bars, Gaelic game clubs, and Irish ancestry.
That seemed a little too convoluted - we wanted to know where the real Irish are in each state, not the fake ones doing Irish related searches for St. Patty’s Day because we’d rather party with the real thing.
So, based on data from the Census, we found the 3 most Irish counties in each state based on population. Census does allow you to differentiate between percentage of Irish to the rest of the population or just the actual Irish population total. We went with the percentage of Irish population to the rest.
Overall, 9.7 percent of the population in Washington has Irish ancestry, 8.6 in Idaho, and 5.6 in Utah. New Hampshire is the most Irish state in the nation.

Not to make any racist or generalized comments here, but shouldn’t Idaho stand out more with the potato love and reliance shared between the groups?
