Spring has sprung...and apparently it sprung so well that every mouse in the city has woke up and decided to come to my house! Seriously - over the weekend we caught 10 mice in our house. That is more than we have caught the previous 2 years combined. What is causing this invasion of mice in my house?

We have a pretty clean house (considering we have 4 kids, 2 dogs, and a cat...who apparently doesn't like to catch mice) so I don't think the invasion is due to cleanliness.

We are surrounded by a lot of empty land. Across the street is a farm, we have a half acre of field behind the house and so do our neighbors...so the mice could be coming from the fields. But, still why are they in the house?

My final idea is a combination of all the empty land and a lack of cats. Last year we had about 6 or 7 cats that would roam our neighborhood, and I imagine they did a good job of pest control. This spring though all of the cats are gone from our neighborhood except for our cat and one other cat that comes by.

So unless this mouse infestation is a city wide thing - it looks like I need to go to the animal shelter to get a few mousers! Have you had a problem this year with mice? Let me know and give suggestions in the comments below. Thanks!
