On Thanksgiving Day, we will all be celebrating the things we are thankful for. Often, that gratitude includes living in a country that allows us so many freedoms, but that freedom doesn’t cover all things.

You are free to invite your crazy uncle to the Thanksgiving meal, but you aren’t free to serve these types of meat to your family and guests.

9 Meats You Can’t Legally Serve at Thanksgiving in Idaho

Since I’m a meat-eater, I will point out now that tofu or any other form of fake meat should be included in the ‘do-not-serve’ list, but this list will focus on real meat. If you choose to serve a tofurkey to your guests, that’s a life choice you have to deal with.

The common meats are fine in Idaho. Turkey, ham, and even a roast aren’t uncommon main courses at Thanksgiving meals. I haven’t had them at Thanksgiving, but this is Idaho, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some families serve wild game like deer, elk, or duck. That’s also fine. Legally, you can do that.

What you can’t legally do is serve any of these nine meats. Now, many of them may seem obvious, but they are included in the law because someone, at some point, thought eating them was a good idea.

In addition to any endangered animals and marine mammals like whales and dolphins, you can’t serve these animals as food in Idaho.

So, bummer, you can’t serve that crazy uncle some infected deer brains to see what happens. On a positive note, you can still serve some interesting meats if you can get your hands on them.
