The bad kids sit at the back of the bus. It is something we have all heard, but what is it that makes kids act bad on the school bus? My son Titus sits at the front of the bus and got written up by the bus driver for acting badly. My wife and I were pretty surprised to get the note from the driver saying that he had been acting rowdy and using bad language (since we don't swear and shut up is considered bad words in our house) and that he needed the note signed by us and the school principal. My son is not perfect, but he is not a bad kid, so this was a new experience for us. We ended up grounding him for a week from movies, popcorn (his favorite snack), and having his dog cuddle in his bed. Our first job grounding as parents...it was a pretty sad day in our house. We also made rules for the bus - he has to sit in the front by his sister, he can't sit by friends, and he has to be quiet.

This also got me to thinking about my time on the bus. I rode the bus and I remember sitting in the back most of the time...but I don't remember any details about how I acted on the bus. I certainly never got written up or kicked off the school bus. I am also sure that I was not an angel on those long trips to and from school.

What is it about a school bus that brings out the bad in kids? Is it the long time sitting down, the lack of supervision, the fact that it is a bunch of kids in a confined space, or is it one kid that gets the others going? What do you think, and how were you when you rode on the bus?
