The highway was blocked for around 3 and a half hours on Thursday afternoon after a crash involving 3 vehicles forced the closure so emergency crews could respond including multiple helicopters, ambulances, police vehicles, and fire teams.

A female passenger was killed in the crash and 4 others were taken to local hospitals by Life Flight or road ambulance.

3 Vehicle Fatality Crash West of Burley, Idaho

The accident happened Thursday afternoon, June 6th, at 6:44 PM on I84 near milepost 196.5. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Idaho State Police. They shared the following information on their report blog. Pictures of the crash can be seen after the report:

An 18-year-old male from Boise was driving westbound in a 2008 GMC Yukon on I84. A 58-year-old male from Boise, with a 54-year-old female passenger, also from Boise, was driving in a 2019 Audi Q8. The Audi was slowing for traffic in the left-hand lane when the GMC struck the Audi from behind. The GMC proceeded to veer into the right-hand lane where it struck the rear of a 2021 Toyota Prius driven by a 78-year-old male with a 78-year-old female passenger, both from Eagle. The GMC came to rest against a fence off the right-hand shoulder.

The driver of the GMC was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The occupants of both the Audi and Toyota were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Audi was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. Both occupants from the Toyota were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The passenger of the Audi succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

ISP were assisted at the scene by Jerome County Sheriff's Office, Minidoka County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Transportation Department, Rock Creek Fire, Classic Air, Air St. Lukes, Lifelight Network, and Magic Valley Paramedics.
