BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) Idahoans will have to continue paying tax on steak, cheese, milk, and other foods now that the governor has vetoed legislation that would have repealed the sales tax on groceries. In a letter sent by the Governor's Office, Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter said the costs of not collecting sales tax on food was too great for what he believes would be too little tax relief. He cited advise from Utah, which attempted similar legislation to remove sales tax on groceries making budgeting much more difficult. Idaho legislators on both sides of the aisle voted and passed House Bill 67 to remove the 6 percent sales tax on groceries.
