Huge Avalanche in Idaho Forces 40 Foot of Snow and Road Closure
This winter has not been what most in Idaho are accustomed to. It has been drier, warmer, and much milder than many years, but it doesn't mean there hasn't been snow and it hasn't been cold in the mountains. While the valleys have been dryer, plenty of snow is taking place up in the mountains of the state. This past weekend a massive snowfall took place in the state, and in the process of this snow, a gigantic avalanche took place to cause a highway in the Gem State to close, and it remains closed as of this writing.
Avalanche Closes Highway in Idaho
On Sunday, while many were watching the big game, an avalanche occurred in the Gem State resulting in 40 feet of snow blocking Highway 21 between Grandjean and Banner Summit. It is not common for highways to be closed due to snow in the Gem State, letting residents know how bad the avalanche was to close the highway over the weekend. The road remains closed as of this writing, and hope is high that it should be reopened sometime Monday afternoon, or Tuesday of this week.
Road Closed Due to Avalanche in Idaho
It isn't common for avalanches of this size to occur, especially closing highways in Idaho. The highway that is currently closed is often traveled by those traveling to and from Boise to Stanley. When traveling through or to the mountains this winter, it is crucial to check the road conditions and let this avalanche serve as a reminder, that while the roads and snowfall may be in good condition in most places in the state, the mountains may be entirely different.

Be safe and be prepared for slower traffic, and winter road conditions when traveling through the mountains for the remainder of this season. For more on the avalanche that took place over the weekend, make sure to click on the link in the second paragraph above.
