Idaho Has Nearly 400 Unsolved Murders, Crime Data Reveals
Compared to some states like California, New York, and Texas, Idaho's unsolved homicide totals aren't overly shocking. However, these are still cases where the loved ones of these victims are struggling with a lack of answers every day for as long as they keep living.
In most cases, when a person is murdered, detectives have a small time window to solve the crime. A murderer isn't going to hang around very long, and fleeing the area is usually the first thing they try to arrange to do.
Unsolved murders are something detectives take very seriously. They reflect poorly on the department and create frustration and anxiety for the community.

Crime Data Has Revealed That Statewide, Idaho May Have Close To 400 Unsolved Murders

According to Project Cold Case statistics, Idaho has 394 unsolved murders. Another crime source, Uncovered, estimates the number at 333.

California leads the country with over 53,000 unsolved murder cases, followed by New York (28,249) and Texas (26,570), according to Project Cold Case.
Between 1980 and 2019, the Gem State suffered 1,749 homicides, with 1,416 of those eventually solved, according to Uncovered.
Every day that passes without an arrest adds to the mounting sorrow for the families of murder victims throughout Idaho. In most murder cases, there is at least one person who knows the identity of the killer.
If you have information in an Idaho homicide case--or any state, for that matter--that could help detectives make an arrest, please contact your local police or sheriff's department. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
