One of the first urgent calls to the Idaho State Police in 2025 involved a shooting on an Interstate in Northern Idaho.

The shooting happened on January 8th around 9:30 in the evening and it seemed like the only information and evidence of the crime was a bullet hole in a car, a blurry picture of a car, and a claim that it was driven by a male.

With that small amount of information to work with, Idaho State Police Dispatchers were able to start a search. Because of their work the suspect was quickly found and arrested and they have now been recognized for their efforts.

How 3 Idaho State Police Dispatchers Caught a Dangerous Criminal

After carefully reviewing video footage from street cameras and using other tools available to the ISP, potential matches were found but none that fit the timeline reported by the victim.

With a little redirection in their efforts, the dispatchers found a vehicle that matched the description (a white Nissan Rogue with 7B Idaho license plates) and timeline of the crime - but the car was registered to a female, not a male.

Investigation into the owner of the vehicle revealed that she had a 24-year-old son with erratic and violent tendencies.

The dispatchers, Jamielyn Rupe, Parker Cooley, and Haley Shields, gave their findings to ISP troopers who organized a visit to the son.

During the investigation and conversations with the man, he admitted to shooting at the car on Interstate 90 and to previous instances of brandishing a weapon and ‘engaging in violent acts’. He was booked on charges of: Unlawful discharge of a firearm at a vehicle, and aggravated assault - both felonies. The male was also charged with Driving Under the Influence 1st Offense.
