I recently took the family on vacation for two weeks, and we went to Kansas.  Now, before you judge me for visiting tornado alley this time of the year, we went for a wedding and to visit my wife's family. While we were there, we had to spend an evening in a basement because of the tornadoes around us, we went swimming almost every day because the temperatures were right around 100 each day, and we went to the Sedgewick County Zoo in Wichita.

The zoo was great! On Friday's during the summer, the fire department brings in a truck and shoots water into an open field for 3 hours and the kids go wild (sort of like the animals they were there to visit) in the spray and mud.

My kids were very excited to see the animals, and my daughter Kylee insisted we go to the Hippo first - which was great because the hippo was doing its best baby bird impression with its head out of the water and mouth open.

Titus was extremely excited to see the vampire bats being fed bowls of blood.

The most memorable moment though for all of us was at the gorilla enclosure.  4 gorilla were in the room and one seemed to be playing tag...but none of the others were really into it.  Then, the gorilla ran around the glass and hit it a few times right in front of Titus (which scared him a bit).  What followed next was very unexpected. The gorilla - which we named "Barfy" faced us and vomited in his hand and then ate it! Of course we were grossed out and the kids were freaking out and then he did it again...7 times! Why we stayed and watched? I ask myself that very question :)

I figured there were more stories like this out there so I took your calls today and you definitely shared some memorable Zoo experiences.  Listen to them below and share yours in the comments.
