Yellowstone Boosts Prices of Private Snowmobile Trips
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — It'll cost more to snowmobile in Yellowstone National Park without a guide this winter. Last winter, it cost $40 for a one- to three-day permit that would allow private snowmobiles to travel in groups of up to five sleds and 10 people.
This year the cost is $40 per day. There is also a $25 entrance fee for each snowmobile. Alicia Murphy is coordinator of Yellowstone's noncommercial guided snowmobile access program.
She tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that some snowmobilers reserved multiday trips last year and didn't use all the days, preventing others from obtaining a permit for that day. The park issues one permit per day from each of its four entrances. Permit applications are being accepted through Sept. 30. They are awarded by lottery.
