HOW TO SURVIVE THE CUBICLE LIFE

One day you may have a huge office with a great view, but for now you are stuck in a cubicle. If you want to succeed, you should probably know how to work well in a cubicle situation. Here are some tips on how to be a good cube-mate:

  • Get used to handling distractions -- You will be distracted working in a cubicle, but learn to refocus and prioritize.
  • Make your space your own -- Personalize your space. You will be there a lot.
  • Don't use speaker phone -- Your co-workers will be distracted and annoyed.
  • Leave for meetings -- Don't hold big meetings at the cubicle; take them elsewhere.
  • Watch your mouth -- People can hear you, so stay clear of office gossip or foul language in the cubicle.
  • Chat away from your desk -- If you are going to have a long chat with a co-worker, step away from the cubicle.
  • Keep the volume down -- This goes for your voice, phone, computer, and any other noise you may make.
  • Love thy neighbor -- Know who your neighbors are and communicate with them.
  • Manners matter -- When everyone can see you, you need to be polite and use your manners.

DEALING WITH BAD BOSSES

The comedy Horrible Bosses opened in theaters over the weekend. But, for many people, having a bad boss isn't a laughing matter. It's a fact of life.

If you're stuck with an unreasonable manager, here are some tips on how to cope -- at least until you can escape to a better gig:

  • Be Adaptable -- You know it's going to get rocky, so be prepared to roll with the punches and adapt to the challenges the boss throws at you.
  • Communicate Constantly -- Maintain open lines of communication with your boss, even if the conversations are unpleasant. The more you talk and e-mail, the less chance there is for misunderstandings and drama.
  • Don't Take It Personally -- Bad managers are not necessarily bad people. They might be unpleasant because they don't like or know how to handle the position.
  • Think Big Picture -- When times get tough, consider the reasons you're sticking around. Make sure your end game is worth the pain of dealing with your lousy boss.

ROMANCE NOVELS MAY BE BAD FOR YOURSELF

According to prominent relationship therapist Susan Quilliam, romance novels may be bad for your health.

She claims the stories in the novels get confused with reality, leading women to make poor choices that affect their lives and health.

Unlike in the novels, relationships are not always smooth and hopping into bed with a man can lead to serious negative consequences.

And, the novels can be an especially big problem because romance novels account for more than half of fiction bought in some Western countries, with some fans reading several books a week.

With all that exposure to fantasy, finding enjoyment in the day-to-day grind of real life doesn't stand a chance.

WOMEN ARE MORE DANGEROUS DRIVERS

It's official. Women drivers ARE more dangerous behind the wheel.

At least, according to a new study of 6.5 million car crashes that took place in the U.S. between 1998 and 2007.

Researchers at the University of Michigan found that women drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident, despite the fact men spend more time behind the wheel than women
