120 MPH Wrong Way Chase on Utah Highway Ends in Bizarre Wreck

A dangerous car chase in Southern Utah reached speeds up to 120 miles per hour all while the vehicle was driving in the wrong direction on the highway.

The extremely dangerous situation ended in an equally dangerous crash about 20 miles after it began.

The police pursuit and wreck were caught on video by the trooper's dashcam. According to the report from the Utah Highway Patrol on the DPS website, the incident happened on Sunday, February 16th at around 2 in the morning.

The report says a Cadillac was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-15 beginning at milepost 81. The trooper encountered the driver near milepost 88.5 and attempted to stop them. The stop was unsuccessful and the driver sped off and hit speeds between 115 and 120 miles per hour. The Cadillac slowed down to around 90 mph and swerved into a Freightliner semi-truck, causing an accident at milepost 98.

The press release from UHP says the Cadillac spun off the road and rolled in the median. More from the press release:

The Freightliner subsequently crossed the median into the northbound travel lanes and came to a stop. A 2014 Toyota then struck the trailer of the Freightliner. As traffic came to a standstill, a 2011 Freightliner, traveling northbound in the northbound lanes, collided with the trailer of the first semi, splitting it in half. After this collision, the second Freightliner then impacted the rear of the Toyota.

Two women in the Toyota were taken to the hospital and the driver of the Cadillac required extraction from the vehicle and was then airlifted in critical condition. You can see of picture of the wrecked Cadillac on the DPS website.
