We’ve been experiencing an inversion for about a week now. It’s been gloomy, foggy, and cold. The change has been especially disheartening for many as it’s happening on the tail of a week of near 60 degree days in Southern Idaho.

With the current weather situation, there is some good news and some bad news.

Sunshine is Coming to Idaho Soon Despite Air Stagnation Advisory Extension

The Air Stagnation Advisory was originally set to expire on Monday but was extended through Friday morning at 5AM. The inversion is dangerous to people with respiratory issues as it can trap pollutants near the surface for extended periods of time. One of the only benefits to the normal wind in Idaho is that those pollutants get blown away. But right now isn’t normal.

Wednesday was a nice break as we got a little sunshine, but we are back to overcast today. But, here’s the good news: the weekend promises abundant sunshine and increasingly warmer temperatures through next week. The night remain around freezing overnight, but there’s no rain or snow in the forecast.

Those hoping for a snowy season in Idaho will have to head to higher elevations, but even that isn’t a guarantee. Some ski resorts haven’t been able to open yet in Idaho due to a lack of snow, others only recently began operating, and others have to play it day by day.

The warm temps have even affected one of our favorite cold weather attractions. The Ice Palace Idaho in Rigby wasn’t even able to start building their memorable ice sculptures this year. Since they aren’t open, you should enjoy this video of the explosive way they finish the seasons that they do open.

Are you OK with the lack of snow in Idaho or are you hoping to get a nice white blanket soon?
