Idaho has the ‘Dairy Air’ and Utah has the ‘SLC Smog’, and they are both gross, but one is dangerously bad right now for residents. Due to a high-pressure system with calm winds, clear skies, and very little vertical mixing, the air in many areas is becoming stagnant and polluted.

Worse news, this air stagnation is expected to last into next week.

We decided to update this story, because it looks like Slat Lake City was actually worse today than before. Check out this video of the SLC Smog from Matt Johnson at KSL. Gross.

Air Stagnation in Utah and Idaho is a Health Concern for Residents

According to weather reports, many cities in Southern Idaho, including Boise and Twin Falls, are under Air Stagnation Advisories. This means residents with respiratory issues should take extra care when outdoors due to the level of pollutants in the stagnant air into Monday morning next week.

But as bad as it is in these Idaho cities, there’s a city in Utah experiencing the worst air quality in the entire United States. For multiple days now, and most likely more to come, Salt Lake City has had the most unhealthy air quality in the nation. That’s saying something if you know anything about the air in big cities like Detroit, Houston, and Los Angeles. FOX 13 in SLC has dubbed the inversion the Days of Haze.

While the air quality is especially hazardous to those with compromised respiratory systems, prolonged exposure to the air during an air stagnation event can cause issues for healthy people, too.
