A Child Was Hit By a Stray Target Practice Bullet in Idaho

In reports from police, we learn that people firing guns at a target practice activity near Mountain Home accidentally hit a child who was in a vehicle traveling on the nearby Interstate 84.

Police say that the bullet hit the windshield of the car and ‘grazed’ the child sitting in the back seat. The child was treated at St. Luke’s in Boise and is expected to recover. Another report says the mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was also treated at the hospital and had glass embedded in her hand from the windshield.

Police were able to find the person they believe shot the gun while doing target practice. Charges are pending, and authorities are using the event to remind gun owners of their responsibility when target shooting.

Pictures below show the bullet hole in the windshield, the headrest of the passenger seat, and the bandaged arm of the mother.

Obviously, there will be an investigation into the shooting, as it shows clear negligence on the part of the shooter. We don’t know how the mother was sitting in that front seat and not hit by the bullet, based on where it went through the headrest.

The mother and child are truly lucky to be alive.
