The National Weather Service is reporting a severe storm heading toward most of Southern Idaho this evening.

The report warns residents to be prepared for a severe thunderstorm to hit 18 counties in Southern Idaho.

Southern Idaho Preparing For Sever Thunderstorm 468 on Wednesday Evening

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 PM tonight, June 26th. The 18 counties included in the storm area are in south central, southeast, southwest, and central Idaho. They include:

  • Jerome
  • Boise
  • Camas
  • Canyon
  • Elmore
  • Gem
  • Payette
  • Valley
  • Ada
  • Blaine
  • Butte
  • Custer
  • Lincoln
  • Minidoka
  • Bannock
  • Bingham
  • Power

Cities affected by the storm watch include:

  • Atlanta
  • Aberdeen
  • American Falls
  • Arco
  • Bellevue
  • Blackfoot
  • Boise
  • Caldwell
  • Carey
  • Cascade
  • Challis
  • Eagle
  • Emmett
  • Fairfield
  • Fruitland
  • Garden City
  • Gooding
  • Hailey
  • Horseshoe Bend
  • Idaho City
  • Jerome
  • Ketchum
  • Mackay
  • McCall
  • McCammon
  • Meridian
  • Moreland
  • Mountain Home
  • Nampa
  • Payette

Additionally, a Wind Advisory is in effect for the Pocatello and Idaho Falls regions starting Thursday morning at 9 until 9 PM Thursday night. Winds will be constant at 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts will hit as high as 50 miles per hour.

Twin Falls is somehow not included in the sever weather watch areas, but rain and winds are still expected after 8 PM, just not as extreme as other parts of Southern Idaho tonight.
