After the death of Charlie Kirk last week, people stormed the internet with social media posts and videos expressing their feelings about the murder.

Some people were sad, and some people were thrilled that a man had been killed. Everyone had their reason for how they felt, and why they felt they needed to share it with the world, even if it wasn’t a good reason.

Now, those comments have reportedly led to hundreds of people either being fired from their jobs or put on some sort of leave. This has left people arguing about free speech and context. But here’s the thing about free speech and quoting the First Amendment as a loophole for saying whatever you want: the constitutional amendment only protects your free speech from government retaliation, and even then, you can still be prosecuted for speech that is deemed to be defamation, obscenity, or inciting violence.

Disgusting Comments About Charlie Kirk’s Death Lead to Firings in ID, WA, and UT

None of that protects you from your boss or employer deciding that your views don’t fit with the views and image of their business. Yes, you can be fired for being a horrible person and showing that darkness to the world in a social media post.

A High School employee, reportedly a cheerleading coach in Meridian, was fired for comments she made, rejoicing in the death of Kirk and stating ‘I hope he’s dead’. Others in Idaho, Utah, and Washington have lost their jobs thanks to the efforts of people like this guy, who finds these people and reports them to their employers in an effort to get them fired. Disclaimer on the video: the guy does use strong language while reading the names.

An interesting sign of the world we live in is the title of one of the videos reporting these firings. The title says the people were ’allegedly celebrating’ the murder of Charlie Kirk. Where is the ‘allegedly’ in any of these videos? Being on this side of writing online content, I get that we have to use certain words to cover our butts, but that is ridiculous.

They did make these comments. They did make these videos. I know AI is getting good, but these posts were done by people claiming to be human…even if they have the heart of a robot. Allegedly.

I can only imagine that is what is going through the head of our President.

Since these people are now unemployed, if they are looking for jobs that are safe from AI - but not from making inappropriate comments - some of these might be perfect for them.
