Delays Up to 3 Hours Expected on Major Idaho Highway This Week
Update Reminder 102324: The construction, road closures, and traffic diversions begin tonight in the Magic Valley.
Construction continues all around Idaho in 2024. Even with cold weather the work drags on. It can be frustrating for drivers who frequent construction areas or for those who didn’t look at the road conditions before heading out.
Some road closures are unexpected due to accidents or road damage, but we have a big closure coming up this month in Southern Idaho and a warning about the delays it will cause.
Expect 2 to 3-Hour Delays on This Southern Idaho Highway This Month
Interstate 84 in Idaho is a major traffic road through the state and later this month roadwork will cause major delays. Road construction has already been an issue in the Magic Valley between Twin Falls and Jerome since July of 2023 when a highway widening project began.
As part of that ongoing work, there will be 2 closures to be aware of at the end of October for Eastbound traffic. The first round of work will be done at night, starting at 7 PM on Wednesday the 23rd into Thursday the 24th until around 7 AM on I84 near S Lincoln Ave. Speeds will be reduced and flaggers will be out. Traffic will be diverted over the Exit 168 on and off ramps. The bridge across Lincoln Ave will be completely closed during the work.
The second round of closures will be in the same area but with an expected delay time of up to 3 hours. That work will begin on October 25th at 7 PM and is expected to last through the weekend, finishing on the 27th at 7 PM. Traffic will again be diverted to the Exit 168 on and off ramps. Additionally, Bob Barton Frontage Road and Frontage Road N will be closed.
During both rounds of construction, drivers should watch for flaggers, varying lane closures, lane width changes, and reduced speed limits. Details can be found on Idaho 511.
On Idaho 511 you can also see updates for the construction work happening at the Twin Falls exit on I-84, which is expected to last through August of 2026. The roadwork on Highway 93 north of Twin Falls should be done by the end of this month.
